Known as the ‘Lord of the Hallowed Land’, Anubis was said to protect souls as they journeyed into the after life. The Egyptians believed that the god Anubis would keep watch over the tombs and graves from a high vantage point in the desert, ready to rush down to protect the deceased. He not only protected the souls of the dead, but their eternal resting place, too.
The ancient Egyptians thought the heart was the center of intelligence and a magical part of the body. We here at Big Cat Rescue tend to agree. Our hearts are devoted to the care of animals who have suffered the fate of abuse in captivity and we are dedicated to teaching people around the world the plight of the cats, both in the wild and in confinement, and how they can help through their behavior and support of better laws.
While the cats in our care have a longer life expectancy, over the years we have had our share of good-byes. Our Big Cat Celebration Wall has become a highlight to many that visit the refuge. Even though it is a memorial, we choose to call it and think of it as a celebration of their lives. Visiting animal lovers continue to share with us the peace of heart and mind they have experienced at the Celebration Wall and how the cats in our care “seem to provide a living link to the other side.”

The Big Cat Celebration Wall began at our sanctuary as a means for us to personally pay tribute and celebrate the wonderful cats that has passed on in our care. It has become a focal point to all who visit. No one can bypass the wall without looking at the plaques, reading the names, and touching the inscribed photos. Although it began as our own personal tribute, we have learned from our visitors that it has become an unexplainable force providing peace and comfort for all who see it. Knowing our many guests and supporters are animal lovers and watching every guest experience the emotion at the Big Cat Celebration Wall…The Pet Celebration Wall was born.

Pet Tributes along the Pet Celebration Walls
The very same way we pay tribute to our Big Cats
As you walk the shady paths of Big Cat Rescue, there is currently a short barrier fence used to guide our guests along the grounds and to separate them from each Cat-a-Tat home. Pet Celebration Walls will be replacing those short fences; guiding and inspiring our guests along each tour. This will be the only place in the world where tributes to the lives of pets and the love they freely gave is celebrated by tour guides to thousands of guests from around the world. Our sanctuary paths will be lined with Pet Celebration Walls empowering all with the love of pets forever remembered.
Along each Pet Celebration Wall will be opportunities for pet lovers to pay tribute to cherished pets with donations of Pet Legacy Plaques. The very same plaques we use to pay tribute to our big cats. Our dream is to line every path in the sanctuary with Pet Celebration Walls sharing the ‘love’ along the way.

Your pet's cremated ashes may be housed in our Memorial Wall Mausoleum that winds through the sanctuary grounds as a barricade to keep the cats safe from the visiting public.
