Bobcats of Big Cat Rescue
On this page you will find a lot more Northern Bobcats and at the bottom are Bobcat Hybrids.
Male Bobcat
Arrived here 11/13/98
He was a pet rescued by a woman, but when she has business out of the country she asked if she could board him here at Big Cat Rescue. She came and stayed two days with him to make sure that he was comfortable and left him with all his favorite toys. She cried and cried at the thought of leaving him and assured us she would be back in a couple months. In September of 1999 she wrote and said that a Bobcat was no longer a feasible pet for her at this time and that she would be leaving Banshee with us until her situation changed. We went ahead and built him his own 900 square foot Cat-A-Tat and for the first time in his life he was able to climb trees, hide in the bushes and stalk bugs and prey. She does still send $25.00 per month to his care and writes to inquire about him from time to time which is more than most pet owners do when they leave their animals here. Banshee reminds us that we all reconnect to Spirit when we die; the challenge is to do so while we live.
Bobby "Blue" Rose
Female Northern Bobcat
Date of Birth: 5/1/92
Bobby Rose came to Big Cat Rescue with the original group of 56 kittens in 1992 who were rescued from a fur farm. She was originally sold to one of our staff, but as part of Big Cat Rescue's buy-back policy, she was returned here on 11/2/94. She kept stalking her owner's 16-year-old daughter and we did not want her to end up on the downward spiral to misery that too many unwanted cats find themselves on. Bobby Blue Rose always says, "The morning breeze has secrets to tell you; do not go back to sleep!"
Female Northern / Texas Bobcat
Date of Birth: 4/14/96
Cleo-Cat-Tra
watched a Spider who was weaving a web of hundreds of intricate patterns that
caught the glistening morning dew. The Spider taught Cleo-Cat-Tra that
the web symbolizes the infinite possibilities of creation. She said that
humans often get caught up in their own web of illusion in the physical world
and forget to look beyond the horizon into other dimensions. It is typical
human nature to get caught up in the notion of good or bad fortune. Cleo-Cat-Tra
urges us to remember that we can change our fortune at any time. All we
have to do is to remember that we are all part of one web of life and like
each of the strands of spider's web, we are all intricately connected. Most
importantly she asks that we remember that we are infinite beings who will
continue to weave the pattern of life and living throughout all time. Remember
to see the expansiveness of the eternal plan.
Male Northern Bobcat
Date of Birth: 4/17/95
Crazy Horse came to live at Big Cat Rescue along with Levi, Two Toes, and eight other Bobcats in June 1995. They had all originally been destined to become part of a fur coat harvest. He was raised in the house and had excellent house manners, but by the time he was taken from the fur farm he had been with his mother too long to ever be sweet to people. He would run and hiss whenever approached. A safe cage was built for him, with Two Toes, Tiger Lilly, and Levi, so that he did not have to be stressed out by constant human contact. Crazy Horse gets along great with his cage mates and would tell you that no tree has branches so foolish as to fight among themselves.
Female Northern Bobcat
Date of Birth: 5/12/93
Little Dove came with the original group of 56 who were rescued from the fur farm by Big Cat Rescue. She is a Blue Bobcat and turns silver in the winter. She has never been as trusting as Little Feather or Raindance. She now shares a 1200 square foot Cat-A-Tat with her neutered friend, Despurrado. When she was younger one of the cats she lived with bit her eye and now it is discolored but she seems to see fine. Little Dove teases about her odd eye and quips, "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change!"
Rocky, Andi, & Sierra
Male, Female & Female Bobcats
Date of Birth Siera 1989, Rocky and Andi 4/22/97
Arrived 11/30/01
Rocky, Andi, & Sierra were bred for display at the Tennessee National Zoo, but were never used because the were very shy and hid from the public. The three bobcats grew up together in a holding facility at the zoo and when we rescued Nikita the lioness, the zoo asked Big Cat Rescue to take the three bobcats as well. Rocky was neutered and sent on his way with his bobcat buddies. The now have a very large enclosure with a rock cave to hide in. At dinner time many other cage mates will snarl at each other if one dares go into another's feeding lockout. These three can often be seen all waiting patiently in one lockout for dinner. If one moves, they will often all go together. They believe that to find your purpose is dependant upon finding harmony with God and that means finding harmony with all of His creation.
Female Northern Bobcat
Date of Birth: 4/30/95
Tiger Lilly came to Big Cat Rescue on 6/6/95 along with Selena, Levi, Crazy Horse and the rest. She too was to be slaughtered and her fur used for Trade show competitions. It is possible that she and Divinity were litter mates - with their silvery fur they look almost identical. Where they differ is in their personalities. Divinity is fearless, whereas Tiger Lilly is more like the Mouse. Because almost everything preys on Mouse he has to scrutinize everything in the most minute detail. Mouse appears to hoard but in reality he is just organizing everything so that he can look at it in greater detail later and decide if it is a danger or not. Tiger Lilly is learning from Mouse to scrutinize herself and others carefully and take action accordingly.
Female Bobcat
Date of Birth: 4/24/95
Two Toes was rescued from a fur farm and came to live at Big Cat Rescue along with Levi, Two Toes, and eight other Bobcats in June 1995. She got her name because two of her toes are white. Two Toes advises us that when you are steadfast in your abstention of harmful thoughts toward others then all creatures cease to feel fear in your presence. If you want to walk in peace and harmony with the animals, you have to be pure in your love toward all men.
Bobcat Hybrids
The following cats were hybrids from the fur farms where they had been crossbred with lynx to get softer coats with a more hearty bobcat body. These cats are much larger and softer than bobcats and first generation males are supposed to be sterile.
The cats on this page are Bob Cat - Lynx? Hybrids.
The first cat, Nakita is a Female Bobcat who arrived at Big Cat Rescue with
her long time mate, Czar who is of questionable background. No one who has
ever seen Czar has been able to identify his breed and their kittens were thought
to be sterile. All of these cats have been neutered.
Female Bobcat
Date of Birth: 1987
Nakita came with Czar to live on Easy Street in 1992. She was sold to us as a Eurasian Lynx, but even now that we know better, we love her, rare or not. She has lived here with Czar for 11 years until his death. As Czar aged, his eyesight failed and he grew deaf. Nakita helped him immensely, in his old age, by grooming him and walking shoulder to shoulder with him to the lockout at feeding time. She has always been very protective of Czar and would not allow people to get anywhere near him. If Nakita could impart but one pearl of wisdom from her time here, it would be that a sense of separation from God is the only thing you need correct.
Des-PURR-Ado
Male Lynx Hybrid Date of Birth: 4/29/96
Des-PURR-Ado's father was a hybrid it was assumed he was sterile but the magic
of his birth is personified in Raven medicine. Raven's iridescent blue
black feathers remind us of the void known as the Great Mystery. When
Raven comes into your life he brings a message that you are about to experience
a great change in consciousness. Des-Purr-ado suggests that you
ask Raven to fly through your dreams and give you a taste of his medicine. If
you do, you may never be the same again. Raven may be pecking at the
door of your consciousness now but if you lack faith in your own ability
to create miracles you may not be able to receive his message. When
you seek to do good for all of life's creatures in love and simplicity you
give flight to your own ability to heal. Life is good, so use this
magic to aid the entire family of Earth.
Alexander
Male "Eurasian" Lynx
Date of Birth: 5/94
Alexander's father was supposed to be a sterile first generation hybrid
so we did not expect Alexander but that was just the beginning of his magic. Alex
taught us about Snake medicine people who know that we are all Universal beings.
When Snake energy reaches the spiritual plane it becomes wisdom, understanding,
wholeness and connection to the Great Spirit. Alexander says that this
is heavy magic but wants you to remember that it is no more than a change in
consciousness. Do you find yourself in a rut; clinging to old ways
and old thoughts because you are comfortable with them? Alex urges you
to glide beyond that place which is safe but nonproductive by becoming Snake.
Release the outer skin of your old identity and move through the dreamlike illusion
of static continuity across the sands of consciousness. Feel Snake's rhythm
as part of the Universe and you will experience the sensual dance of freedom.
Windstar
Male Bobcat- Lynx Hybrid
Date of Birth 5/11/98
Windstar was an unexpected surprise to Windsong and Alexander. Because
Alex was a Hybrid we assumed he was infertile after four years of watching
him breed with no success. We had neutered all of our male Bobcats except
for the hybrids as we were so sure they could not reproduce. Windstar was
proof to the contrary and his birth resulted in his father and uncle, Des-Purr-ado
being immediately neutered. Windstar is affectionately called "Bobcat" and
has a wonderful purrsonality. Windstar loves the water. Every year for
his birthday he gets a kiddie pool for a week to play in. In 2004 for his
birthday he got a rock pool with waterfall like the tigers have.
Windstar wants you to know that there is nothing more powerful than an idea whose time has come. There was a time, in our recent history when we believed in slavery and we believed that women should not be allowed to vote. Anyone who thought otherwise was ridiculed and cast out of society. Now we look back and wonder how we ever could have believed that all men were not created equal. You are witnessing a shift in the way people perceive animals because science has taught us that they experience fear, joy, shame, love and they dream just like we do. As we become better informed we cannot turn a blind eye to the abuses they suffer and some brave souls are speaking out. Accepting that all life is precious is an idea whose time has come and nothing can stop an idea whose time has come.
