Bearcats of Big Cat Rescue
Banjo
Date of Birth 1990?
Arrived 6/15/95
Banjo was used in classroom presentations by Wildlife Educators of America in Castaic, CA and was sent here when it was discovered that he was a he and not a she. He is Vern's favourite animal here and since Vern builds the cages, Banjo has the biggest. It has trees, grasslands and a view of the main road so that he can flag down and enjoy watermelon with the volunteers.

Mocha, Bean, & Thing
Female, Male, & Female Bearcats
D.O.B. 1999
Mocha, Bean, & Thing the 3 Bearcats, or Binturongs were born to Elvis and Dixie who had lived together for several years with out producing any cubs. Then one surprise after another named Mocha, Bean, and Thing. Elvis & Dixie were finally separated into their own BearCat-a-tats to prevent any more births. Elvis and Dixie should have been too old to reproduce and have since died of old age.
Mocha, the friendliest of the three bears loves
to be fed bananas by the volunteers and to climb way up high and lounge amongst
the top branches of one of their three large trees. Bean, is more timid than
the other two and prefers his own private space in the bushes of his enclosure.
Thing loves to climb as well and can often be found napping in the highest
branch, swaying gently in the breeze. Bear Cats are excellent climbers and
use their tales to grasp the branches for balance.
