If you ask our Education Directors, the highlight of the month was hosting our guests from the Hope Children’s Home of Tampa, sponsored by the Tampa AFCEA. An enthusiastic group of 29 kids and chaperones came on tour with us on Saturday 10/27/07. The Hope Children’s Home has rescued nearly 5000 children between the ages of 2 and 18 since it’s founding in 1968. Like our cats here at Big Cat Rescue, most of these children have been discarded, abused, unwanted, or orphaned. There was no doubt that the children shared a special understanding as they enjoyed their visit with the cats and heard their stories. The kids had great questions, great interest, and exceptional appreciation of this unique educational experience. This combined effort of three non-profits was a delightful and memorable experience for us all. Many thanks to the members of the AFCEA, who sponsored the cost of admission and came along to enjoy the trip with the children.  Together we can change the world, one cat, and one child at a time.

Great American Teach In 2007

In mid November Big Cat Rescue was “out there” reaching out to schools in Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties, as we attended the annual Great American Teach-In. Eight schools were visited reaching some 700 students with the mission of Big Cat Rescue. The students and teachers enjoyed presentations, pictures, and artifacts. No less than 25 invitations were received from various schools and we were only sorry we could not attend them all! Our sincere thanks to the volunteers who participated and helped make this our most successful teach-in ever.
